Happy Birthday, Prime Minister

Wentzville’s own Chuck Berry celebrated his birthday on Saturday. Yes, it’s the Prime Minister of Rock ‘n Roll’s 82nd year and he still inspires and rocks us.
He was born in St. Louis on Oct. 18, 1926. I’ve heard he lived on Goode Street. Hmm?
How strange to think that Berry, inspiration for scores of musicians, had idols of his own. Well, he did. Namely: Nat “King” Cole and Muddy Waters (the one who suggested Chess Records to Berry).
Did you know that Berry’s signature work, that legendary song about a guitarist, Johnny B. Goode, is said to be inspired by piano player Johnnie Johnson?
Berry is still busy rocking locally at Argosy Casino in Alton, IL (next performance on Dec. 6) as well as Blueberry Hill’s Duck Room in the Delmar Loop (next performance on Dec. 10). He enjoys highway driving and has been seen “motivatin’” himself to his own concerts.

Once I work up enough courage, I just might invite him over to the house for some Dutch apple pie, one of his favorite desserts and a game of croquet (his hobby).
Many St. Charles County folks have a special place in their hearts for Chuck Berry. He is, after all, our neighbor.
